SALEM - The Roanoke College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in double-overtime to Randolph-Macon, 2-1 on Saturday.
Roanoke's record now sits at 2-3, 0-1 in ODAC play, while Randolph-Macon The Maroons have an all-time 29-16-8 record against the Yellow Jackets. This is Roanoke's first loss to Randolph-Macon since 2008.
Both teams remained scoreless through just about the end of the first half. But, with 10 seconds remaining in the half, Randolph-Macon's Mitchell Surkamp served a pass off of Kevin Levin Lukens shoulder for the goal, and the 1-0 lead entering the locker rooms.
The Maroons found the equalizer at the 68:04 mark when
AJ Tierce fielded a ball directly in front of the goal, and placed it in the back of the net. Tierce's goal served as the final goal of regulation as both teams had to go in to overtime play.
Play resumed all they way to the second overtime period when, with just minutes left, Randolph Macon's Andrew Oakes chipped a shot over the keeper's head for the OT victory.
Tyler Carbaugh and
Garrett Eldridge led the Maroons in shots with three each.
Will Dooley played the entire time in goal and made five saves.
The Maroons will return to action on Tuesday, September 18
th as they travel to play North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, NC. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
