Parenteau Hat Trick Fuels Women's Soccer 6-1 Victory Over Guilford

Box Score SALEM - Senior Stephanie Parenteau scored three goals in Roanoke College's Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener against Guilford College, where the Maroons were victorious by the score of 6-1.

Roanoke's record now stands at 2-2 and hold a 1-0 record in ODAC play, while the Quakers sit with an 0-6 record, 0-1 in the ODAC. The Maroons are 26-4 all-time against Guilford, and have won the last seven meetings between the two teams. Roanoke's last hat trick came in a contest against Randolph College on September 17th, 2010, again by Stephanie Parenteau.

The Maroons opened up the scoring early as Stephanie Parenteau netted her first goal at the 5:21 mark off a cross from Maya Kantor. Just nine minutes later, Parenteau would find the back of the net again by finding a ball off a corner kick to give Roanoke a 2-0 lead. 10 minutes later at the 25:32 mark, Carmen Graves got in on the action as she scored a goal on the right side, extending the Maroons lead to 3-0.

Guilford ended Roanoke's scoring streak when Leticia Benitez took a corner kick feed from Kendall Goins and placed it in the right side of the goal. This goal pulled Guilford within two, 3-1. However, the Maroons would score once more before the end of the half, as Graves tallied one more goal at 41:08.

In the second half, about 16 minutes in, Parenteau completed her hat trick as she fielded a pass from Heather Reynolds and found the back of the net. With just one minute left on the clock, Lauren O'Brien would score the Maroons final goal of the night, and giving the Maroons their final lead of 6-1 to end the game.

Parenteau and Graves led the team with four shots each, followed by Ashley Barnes with three. Carolyn Sarbacher and Sarah Dvorak split halves in goal, and Dvorak made the Maroons' only save in the contest.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, Septmber 14th as they travel to the ODAC's newest team, Shenandoah University. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
