EMORY - The Roanoke College women's soccer team defeated Emory & Henry, 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Tuesday. The Maroons now hold a record of 8-4-1 and are 6-2 in ODAC play while the Wasps are now 3-10, and 2-7 in the ODAC.
Roanoke holds an all-time record of 14-2 against Emory & Henry, seeing their only two losses to the Wasps in 2005 (2-1) and 2011 (1-0).
The Maroons' top scorers continue to be able to find the back of the net. At the 12:43 mark in the contest
Rebekah Adams gave Roanoke a 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later,
Carmen Graves struck and increased the team's lead to 2-0. The early surge by the Roanoke offense allowed the defense to stand strong and only hold the Wasps to five shots, three of which were on goal.
Carolyn Sarbacher, who played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Maroons made three saves.
Roanoke outshot Emory & Henry 21-5, with 13 of the Maroons shots being on goal. Roanoke held the edge in corner kicks as well, 7-2. Graves led the Maroons in shots with five, followed by
Cindy Suttora with four.
The Maroons return to action on Friday, October 12
th as they play host to #9 ranked Lynchburg College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
