SALEM - The Roanoke women's soccer team continued to be undefeated in ODAC play Wednesday, as they defeated Hollins, 6-0. The Maroons move to 6-1-1, 2-0 ODAC, while Hollins falls to 1-6, 0-2 in ODAC play.
Roanoke started agressively in the first moments of the game, going on the attack quickly. At the 16 minute mark, the Maroons struck as
Sarah Valero (Staten Island, NY, Staten Island Academy) ripped a shot from the top of the box.
Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg)picked up her first of three assists on that goal. Roanoke scored again in the 22nd minute as Graves dribbled the ball to the end line and crossed it to
Lauren Schwarcz (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central)who found the back of the net.
In the second half, the Maroons continued on the attack as
Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) scored off a rebound from the keeper in the 66th minute. Just two minutes later Valero struck again when she took another pass from graves and snuck it past the keeper. In the 72nd minute,
Devon Harrell (Nahant, MA, The Governor's Academy) added to the list of goals when she collected a cross from
Alaina Casioppo (Canton, CT, Canton ) and placed it in the right corner of the goal.
Laura Wood (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd) would score the final goal of the game with three minutes to go by lofting a soft shot over the keeper's head and off the right post.
The Maroons outshot Hollins 27-0, and led in corner kicks 9-0. Hollins' goalkeeper Kristen Norkis tallied 13 saves.
Roanoke will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 24 as they play Bridgewater. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
