LEXINGTON --- Roanoke dropped a pair of matches to Washington and Lee, (3-0) and Maryville College (3-0) at the Warner Center on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons dropped to 3-8 and 0-1 in ODAC play.
The Maroons fell to Washington and Lee in their ODAC opener with scores of 21-25, 8-25, 11-25. The Generals now hold a 32-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) led the team with seven kills and added eight digs.
Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) finished the match with five kills, two set assists and a service ace.
Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) posted team-highs in assists (16) and nine digs.
Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) led with two blocks.
In the second match, Roanoke fell to the Maryville in three with scores of 16-25, 14-25 and 15-25. The Maroons are now 4-12 all-time against the Scots. The last time these two teams met in 2008, the Maroons won 3-2.
Largen led in Kills again with six. Freshman
Sarah Long (Midlothian, VA, Midlothian High School) helped the Maroons by putting up five kills. Klosterman also had five kills and led the team with seven digs. Stone added 11 assists to her total as well.
The women will be on the road this Tuesday, Sept. 20 as they take on Southern Virginia University in non-conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
