SALEM --- Roanoke won its ODAC-Opener against Eastern Mennonite, 3-0 at the Bast Center on Tuesday evening. The Maroons, who won their home-opener, improved to 3-6 while the Royals slipped to 3-6 on the young season.
The Maroons won with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-19.
Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) led Roanoke with 29 assists and nine digs.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) and
Sarah Long had eight kills and five digs each. Long and
Mackenzie Allen (Zuni, VA, Windsor High School) totaled four block assists each while
Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) added seven kills and seven digs.
Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) contributed seven kills and two block assists.
Stone moved into seventh all-time in career assists while Largen moved into sixth in career kills and 10th in career digs. She is four shy of eighth on the all-time digs list.
Senior Tabitha Bowman led the way for EMU with a match high 11 kills. Kyla Moorefield added five kills and a pair of solo blocks. Brittany Childress topped all players with 12 digs. Jessica Goertzen had 16 set assists while Sara Ritchie and Mattie Lehman each had a pair of service aces.
The women will travel to Lexington to take on ODAC-foe Washington and Lee on Sept. 17. The Match is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Warner Center.
