Roanoke competed in the Greensboro Invitational over the weekend. They finished 1-3 in the tournament and are now 2-6 on the season. Freshman Sarah Long (Midlothian, VA, Midlothian High School) was named to the all-tournament team for the Maroons.

Roanoke won the tournament-opener in five sets over ODAC-member Guilford. The Maroons won the final two sets (25-21, 20-18) to earn the win. Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) had 36 assists and 14 digs while Long posted season-bests with 16 kills and 14 digs. Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) added 15 kills followed by Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) with 10. Mackenzie Allen (Zuni, VA, Windsor High School) posted a career-high with 20 digs.

Peace won the final three sets to win 3-2 in the second match (25-23, 27-25, 20-25, 21-25 and 13-15). Stone led RC with 46 assists. Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) added 15 kills and three blocks as Largen led the team with 17 digs. Long contributed 15 kills while Klostermann finished with 12 kills and 11 digs.

The women fell to Piedmont in the third match on Saturday afternoon in three sets, 17-25, 24-26, 18-25. Long led RC with nine digs and 11 digs while Largen had 10 kills and eight digs. Stone had 24 assists.

In the final match of the weekend, Roanoke fell to tournament-host Greensboro in four sets, 21-25, 25-27, 25-18, 20-25. Largen had 10 kills and 12 digs followed by Stone with 20 assists and 11 digs. Hawkins led Roanoke with four blocks as Long added nine kills.

The women will host their first home match of the 2011 season against Eastern Mennonite in the ODAC-opener for both teams. Game time is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bast Center.
