The Roanoke Men's Basketball team fell in its ODAC home opener to Lynchburg College, 90-74 on Saturday. The Maroons fall to 1-5, 0-2 ODAC, while the Hornets are now 7-1 and 2-0 in ODAC play.
Lynchburg jumped out to an early lead after Nate Campbell opened the contest with a jumper, followed by a three from Tucker Lucas. The Maroons responded with a pair of baskets by
Logan Singleton, both assisted by
Ethan Humphries. Through the 11:45 mark, the Hornets went on a 21-6 run, including nine more points for Campbell. The Hornets held that large of a lead for most of the first half.
Lynchburg entered the locker rooms ahead at half, 46-33.
At halftime,
Kwasi Amponsah led the Maroons with 11 points and four rebounds. Just behind him was
Logan Singleton with eight points. For the Hornets, Nate Campbell posted 13 points in the first stanza followed by former ODAC Player of the Week Manny Hernandez with 10 points and two rebounds.
Campbell continued his scoring to start the second half, draining a trey early, but Singleton and Amponsah answered with baskets of their own. With 17:13 remaining the score stood at 51-39 Lynchburg.
Over the course of the next four minutes, Lynchburg extended its 12-point lead to 13; as for the most part both teams exchanged baskets back and forth into the first media time out of the second stanza. Just before the timeout Amponsah hit a lay up,
Clay Lacy picked up his 10
th point with a three from the corner and Lynchburg's Campbell put four more on the board.
Coming out of the timeout,

Jack Hamilton and Amponsah each hit a basket, cutting the Lynchburg lead to nine, 63-54 with 12:23 to go. However, Brandan Connor and Xavier Parham answered with three point baskets of their own to extend the lead to 15, 69-54.
With 8:43 remaining in the game, Amponsah hit two free throws to make the score 73-60 Lynchburg, picking up his fourth 20-point game this season, and fifth consecutive game with 19 points or more.
Both teams exchanged baskets through the 5:00 mintue mark, as the Hornets held a 14-point lead at that point, 80-66. A technical foul on Roanoke, plus an and one situation gave Lynchburg five more points to their lead, extending it to 85-66.
The Maroons were unable to cut the defecit over the next five minutes and fell to the Hornets 90-74.
Amponsah led the maroons with career-highs in points (27), rebounds (8) and free-throws made (8). Including Amponsah, Roanoke had four players in double digits with Singleton (12), Lacy (10) and
Adam Kessler (10). Kessler also earned a career high in rebounds with six.
Both teams hit 27 total field goals, but Lynchburg outscored Roanoke from behind the arc, 30 points to six. The Hornets also outshot the Maroons from the free throw line, 26-18. Roanoke did, however, take the edge on rebounds (41-38), and steals (7-6).
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, December 10
th as they go on the road to face Shenandoah. That game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
