Men's Soccer Falls in ODAC Quarterfinals 2-0

SALEM - The Roanoke Men's Soccer team fell in the Quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0 on Saturday evening. The Maroons finish the season 12-5-1, 7-2-1 while the Marlins move on to the Semifinals to face Randolph on Tuesday night.

Both teams played very evenly in the opening minutes of the game. The first goal for the Marlins came at the 22 minute mark when Tanner East knocked a deflected ball in the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan stayed on the attack and struck again in the 38th minute of the game when Jordan Elgin rebounded a ball off the post and returned it across the goal line to make the score 2-0. That score would hold for the next 52 minutes.

Johnny Hughes (Salem, VA, Salem) led the team in shots with three while Avery Makel (Nellysford, VA, Nelson County) made three saves during the course of 90 minutes. The Marlins outshot the Maroons 10-7, while the Maroons led in corner kicks 7-3

This contest was the first time these two teams had met in the Quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament. Versus Virginia Wesleyan, Roanoke is 4-6-2 all-time in the ODAC Tournament. The Maroons now hold a 31-14-3 record all-time in the ODAC Tournament as well.
