Volleyball drops two ODAC Matches in Final Homestand

Box Score SALEM --- Roanoke Volleyball dropped its final two home matches of the 2011 season to Virginia Wesleyan (3-1) and Randolph-Macon (3-1) this weekend at the Bast Center. The Maroons fall to 4-19, 1-7 in the ODAC.

Virginia Wesleyan (11-11, 5-3 ODAC) defeated Roanoke with scores of 23-25, 29-27, 25-22 and 25-18. It was a close contest throughout the first three sets which featured long rallies in a tough conference match-up.

Samantha Klosterman tallied a game-high 13 kills along with 12 digs. Mackenzie Allen led the Maroons with 13 digs, while Rachel Hawkins totaled six blocks (three solo). Shannon Stone was credited with 35 assists.

Randolph-Macon (17-4, 7-1 ODAC) took Roanoke in four sets with scores of 25-14, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-11. The Yellow Jackets are currently second in the ODAC Standings after a tough five-set decision to Washington and Lee this week.

Kelsey Largen led Roanoke with 12 kills and 13 digs in her final home contest. She, along with fellow seniors Leah Horan and Hawkins, were recognized before the match on “Senior Day.” Hawkins had five blocks (one solo) and seven kills in her final collegiate match at the Bast Center.

Stone finished with 32 assists and 10 digs. Sarah Long added seven kills and six digs followed by Klostermann who contributed six kills and six digs.

Largen became the fourth player in Roanoke Volleyball history to amass over 1,000 career kills in her final home match.

The women will travel to Greensboro, NC next Thursday, Oct. 20 to take on Guilford College in ODAC action. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
