SALEM, Va--- Roanoke lost to Emory, 1-0 in the first game of the 2010 Roanoke Invitational Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroon's record dropped to 0-1-1 while the Eagles improved to 2-0 on the year.
In the 64th minute, Melanie Levy was able to head in a pass from Lee Bachouros off a corner kick for the only score of the game.
In the loss, goalkeeper Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) recorded a career-high eight saves on the day, moving her into seventh place on the all-time saves list at Roanoke. She trails Erin Hanson '08 (Blacksburg, VA, Blacksburg) by jut three saves to move into sixth.
Cynthia Suttora (Fort Salonga, NY, Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came off the bench to contribute two shots, one on goal for the Maroons.
Kaele Leonard picked up the win in goal for the Eagles with one save, while Erica Stein helped out with three saves in the first half.
The Maroons will finish up play in the Roanoke Invitational Sunday following the Lynchburg-Emory game. They will play host to Shenandoah, which is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
