SALEM, Va--- Roanoke topped Washington and Lee, 4-0 Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 7-2, 2-0 in ODAC play, while the Generals fell to 1-2-2, 1-2 in the conference.
Roanoke has now won the last four meetings in the battle between the two winningest coaches in conference history. They hold a slim 37-32-5 series lead over the Generals. Head coach Scott Allsion picked up his 278th career win, putting him two victories ahead of the man who stood across the sidelines, Rolf Piranian.
Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River) led the Maroons with two goals on the night, giving him a team-high three on the year. Brian White (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) scored his first collegiate goal and Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River) dished out his first assist of the season.
Travalini got the scoring started in the 13th minute, off a double assist from Matt Standley (Richmond, VA, Home School) and Conover, that put Roanoke ahead for good. He added his second score of the contest in the 60th minute. 15 minutes later, White fired in a shot to the right of the goalie to make it 3-0. Washington and Lee then scored an own goal with just over two minutes left.
The Maroons outshot the Generals, 15-5, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. They also held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Roanoke's defense posted it's seventh shutout of the season. Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville) recorded his fourth victory in goal for the Maroons, blocking three shots on the night. Alex Lambert took the loss for the Generals.
Roanoke will take on ODAC rival Lynchburg this Saturday, Sept. 25th at Shellenberger Field. Kick-off is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
