Roanoke Takes Down Guilford, 73-64 in ODAC Action

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke used a 13-0 run late in the second half to pull away from Guilford in a 73-64 win at the Bast Center on Tuesday evening. The Maroons improved to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 4-3, 1-2 in conference play.
 
Roanoke has won eight-straight over Guilford, averaging a win-margin of 14 points. The Maroons are 31-13 all-time against the Quakers. Celebrating its' 40th season of women's basketball, Roanoke is now only five wins shy of program win #700.
 
Guilford grabbed the early lead, 13-6 before Roanoke countered with a 7-0 spurt as Hannah Davidson (Pulaski, VA, Pulaski County) three-pointer tied the contest with 8:35 remaining in the half. With the score tied at 19-all with 6:30 left, the Quakers went on an 8-2 run to take a six-point lead.
 
Just before the break, Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) and Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) scored five points in the final 13-seconds to go into halftime down one, 29-28.
 
Tied 54-all midway through the second stanza, Roanoke scored 13 unanswered points to make it, 67-54 with 5:27 to play.
 
The Maroons shot 6-of-13 from three-point range and 45.2% overall, including 55.2% in the second half. The Quakers held a slight edge in rebounding, 39-37 and shot 40% from the floor.
 
Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd) had a career-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) and Moats tossed in 12 points each and seven and nine rebounds, respectively. Porter put in a solid night, finishing with six points, five boards, three assists and four steals.
 
Jazlyn Gibbs poured in 18 points for the Quakers, followed by Lauren Lefevers and Morgan King with 12 apiece. Logan Terry pulled down seven rebounds while Brittany Atwater had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
 
The women will travel to Nevada on Dec. 19-20 to play in the Las Vegas Hoopla. They will tip-off against Babson on the 19th followed by a contest vs. Hanover the next day.
