Moatsâ?? Double-Double Powers Roanoke Past Eastern Mennonite

SALEM, Va--- Roanoke rolled past Eastern Mennonite, 59-41 Wednesday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 2-1, 1-0 in ODAC action, while the Royals fell to 2-4, 1-2 in conference play.
The win marked the 250th victory at the Bast Center for the women. Roanoke has now defeated EMU five consecutive times and holds 59-20 advantage in the all-time series. The Maroons played a stifling defense throughout, holding the Royals to 22.2% shooting in the contest.
 
Roanoke used a 20-5 run to open the game over the first 14 minutes of play to seize control early. The women never looked back, and didn't allow the lead to slip under 11 points. Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) and Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd)  both chipped in six points each during the first half run. The Maroons took a 28-14 lead in to the half.
 
Eastern Mennonite came out firing at the beginning of the second half, with Addie Bashorun knocking down a three to start the half. Hanna Davidson countered with a three of her own, just 20-seconds later as Roanoke continued to cruise. The Maroon's led by as much as 24 points, 58-34 with four minutes remaining.
 
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) passed Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) to move into 13th place in career field goals at Roanoke with 385. Moats led the Maroons with her second double-double of the year, scoring 15 points, pulling down 12 boards, and added five blocks on the contest. She is now averaging a double-double for the season with 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
 
Bays chipped in with a career-high 15 points, on 5-of-8 shooting. Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) and Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) added six rebounds on the evening, with Lucas pulling down four offensive caroms. Sophomore Hannah Davidson (Pulaski, VA, Pulaski County) scored a career-high eight points, going 2-of-5from downtown in her first collegiate start.
 
Kala Yoders and Addie Bashorun paced EMU with nine points apiece.
 
The women return to action Saturday, December 4th as they travel to Emory & Henry. Tip-off is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
