SALEM, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan scored three first half goals and never looked back in a 4-1 victory over Roanoke in the ODAC Semifinals on Tuesday evening at Kerr Stadium. Both teams are now 13-4-3 on the season.
The Marlins improved their road record to 7-0-2, in addition to a 7-1-1 mark over the last nine outings. The Maroons snapped a 13-game unbeaten streak, going 11-0-2 over that span. The Marlins avenged a regular season loss to Roanoke, 1-0 on Oct. 2 at Virginia Beach.
Kristyn Anselmo got the scoring started seven minutes in off a feed from Jessica Edelman. Anselmo struck again in the 24th minute off a rebound inside of the box.
With two minutes remaining in the half, Hanna Winkel scored off a strike from just outside the box to put Virginia Wesleyan up three going into the half. Danielle Stephens recorded the fourth and final goal for the Marlins, ten minutes into the second half.
Anselmo led the Marlins with three shots and two goals in their third-straight win. Virginia Wesleyan controlled the contest, outshooting Roanoke, 17-10, including 14-3 in shots on goal. The Maroons held a 6-1 corner kicks advantage.
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam) scored the Maroons only goal in the 70
th minute for her team-best 12
th of the season. She led the Maroons with three shots, two on goal, while
Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) finished with two shots, one on target.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) collected 10 saves for the Maroons. She now has two matches this season with 10 or more saves. The senior captain is fourth all-time in career saves with 223.
