Harrisonburg, Va--- Roanoke tied Eastern Mennonite, 1-1 in ODAC action Saturday evening on the road. The Maroons are now 9-3-2, 6-0-1 in the ODAC, while the Royals record now stands at 4-6-3, 2-3-1 in the conference.
The tie was just the second ever in the series, the first since 2005. The Maroons now hold a 9-3-2 advantage over the Royals all-time.
Roanoke, which entered the match ranked No. 7 in the NSCAA South Region poll, allowed their first goal in conference play on EMU's Homecoming Night.
After a scoreless first half,
Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) found
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam) for her team-leading eighth goal of the season, two minutes into the second stanza.
The match remained a defensive battle throughout, until Chaska Yoder found the back of the net off a Taylor Wenger pass to even the score with just nine minutes left in regulation.
Parenteau led the Maroons with six shots on goal.
Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) added eight shots, four on goal.
Corey Wenger and Chaska Yoder both put two shots on the keeper for the Eastern Mennonite.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) picked up three saves on the night in goal for Roanoke, while Abby Diffenbach turned away an astounding 20 shots on the evening for EMU.
The Maroons outshot the Royals 37-5 and held a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The women will play host to Lynchburg Wednesday October 13th at Kerr Stadium. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. start.
