Staunton, Va--- Roanoke cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mary Baldwin on the road Wednesday evening. The scores were 25-10, 25-11, and 25-15. The Maroons improved to 15-3 on the season, while the Fighting Squirrels fell to 1-18 on the year.
Roanoke, which has never lost to Mary Baldwin, now holds an astounding 26-0 series advantage dating back to 1982. The seven-game win-streak is the second longest of the year for the Maroons. The 15 wins already match the entire 2009 season total.
Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) tied a career-high with eight kills to lead the Maroons. ODAC player of the week
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring),
Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley), and
Shayna Keen (Chatham, VA, Chatham ) all added four kills on the match.
Bren Wilberger (Richmond, VA, Steward ) dished out 17 assists and
Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) chipped in with eight.
Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt),
Leah Horan (Richmond, VA, Freeman), and Stone all recorded nine digs on the night.
Roanoke returns to action this weekend, Oct. 8-9, as they host the 2010 Maroon Invitational. Randolph, Averett, Southern Virginia, Ferrum, and Maryville will all travel to Salem to take part in the tournament. Matches begin Friday at 3:00 p.m.
