SALEM, Va--- Roanoke tied Hampden-Sydney Tuesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons are now 13-3-2, 7-1-2 in the ODAC, while the Tigers now stand at 7-8-2, 4-4-2 in conference play.
Roanoke's defense posted their 13th shutout of the season, giving the second most all-time as they did not allow a goal at home the entire year. The Maroons posted their fourth undefeated record at home for the 2010 season, finishing 8-0-1.
Both teams had their opportunities throughout the physical contest, with 23 fouls called and three yellow cards given out.
Carl Leist (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) led the Maroons with three shots, two on goal.
AJ Tierce added four shots and
Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River) chipped in with three.
Avery Makel (Nellysford, VA, Nelson County) picked up two saves in goal for Roanoke, while John Robert Plyler blocked six shots for Hampden-Sydney.
The Maroons outshot the Tigers 24-15, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. They also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Roanoke returns to action Saturday in the first round of the ODAC tournament. They will host Hampden-Sydney or Washington and Lee. The match's start time will be determined Thursday.
