Roanoke Holds On to Defeat Guilford, 1-0 in ODAC Action

Box Score
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke scored early and held on to knock off Guilford, 1-0 at Kerr Stadium Wednesday evening. The Maroons improved to 11-3-3 overall, 8-0-2 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 6-8-2, 3-4-2 in conference play.
The Maroons, ranked sixth in the latest NCAA South Atlantic Region Rankings, are now 23-4 all-time against the Quakers, including their fourth-straight win over their ODAC-foe. It's also the fourth-straight shutout against Guilford, making it most-consecutive in the series.
Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) in the eighth-minute to give the Maroons an early 1-0 advantage. The defensive unit of Maggie Dent (Roanoke, VA, Patrick Henry), McKenzie Garst (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring), Jamie Johnston (Wallingford, PA, Strath Haven ), Maya Kantor (New City, NY, Clarkstown), Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View), Jordan May (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest) and Jessica Pease (Harrisonburg, VA, Eastern Mennonite) did enough work in the back to give the Maroons the win and keep them atop the ODAC Standings.
Roanoke, playing without offensive leaders Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) and Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam), now has 11 shutouts this season, which ties both the 1996 and 2007 teams for the most in school-history. As a team, the Maroons are ranked among the top-20 nationally in both shutout percentage and goals against average.
The women outshot Guilford, 14-4, including a 9-2 shots on goal advantage. The Maroons also held a 5-1 corner edge. Kooiman collected two saves in the win for Roanoke. Amy Baker (1) and Kat Adams (7) combined for eight saves on the night.
The women return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 as they will host Randolph-Macon in their regular season finale. It will be senior day for Kooiman, Garst, Paige Gaeng (Frederick, MD, Thomas Johnson), Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) and Pease. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
