VIRGINA BEACH, Va. --- Roanoke fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 4-1 in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons dropped to 1-11, 0-5 ODAC. The Marlins improved to 1-13, 1-5 conference play.

 

Roanoke outshot VWC, 17-14, but the Marlins held a 10-6 shots on goal advantage and 9-5 in penalty corners.

 

Down, 1-0 in the 23^rd minute of action, Kelly Finn (Fairhaven, NJ) scored off an assist from Mary Pace (Needham, MA, Berkshire School) to tie the contest. With less than a minute remaining in the half, Virginia Wesleyan scored to go up, 2-1 and took the halftime lead.

 

The Marlins scored twice in the second half and held on to give them their first win of the year. Evan Bunting finished with a goal and two assists for VWC. Amelia Goebel added a goal and an assist.

 

Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional) finished with six saves in goal for Roanoke, while Kristen Olson had five for Virginia Wesleyan. Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough) had a defensive save for the Maroons.

 

The women host Randolph-Macon and Limestone on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Game times are at 2 p.m. on Tuesday against the Yellow Jackets while Wednesday's contest is at 3 p.m.
