LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke jumped out to a two-goal halftime lead and salvaged a 2-2 tie agianst Randolph on the road Saturday night at Wildcat Stadium. The Maroons are now 12-3-1 overall, 6-1-1 in the ODAC. The Wildcats record now stands at 7-6-1, 4-2-1 in conference play.
Johnny Hughes (Salem, VA, Salem) scored off an assist from
Carl Leist (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) to make it, 1-0 in the 26
th minute of action.
Brian White (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) then scored the Maroons second goal of the first half off an assist from
Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River) to give them a 2-0 halftime lead.
But Randolph got a lucky break in the 71st minute off an own goal to cut the lead in half. With only four-seconds left in regulation, Jacob Hood scored off a rebound from a blocked kick from Corey Sindle to tie the contest.
Roanoke held a 17-13 edge in shots, including 6-5 in shots on goal. The corner kicks were deadlocked at 4-4 while there were 34 total fouls called. Randolph was dealt three yellow cards.
Conover led Roanoke with four shots, three on goal.
Jason Ryan (Radford, VA, Radford) also had four shots while
Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River) and
Peyton Lambert (Chesapeake, VA, Western Branch) had two shots.
Avery Makel (Nellysford, VA, Nelson County) finished with two saves in relief for the Maroons.
Ryan Russell added a save on the night. Aaron Humphreys had four saves on the night for the Wildcats.
The men return to action this Tuesday, Oct. 19 as they take on ODAC-foe, Guilford. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
