SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke fell to Washington and Lee, 3-0 in a battle for first place in the conference Wednesday evening at the C. Homer Bast Center. The Maroons dropped to 18-5, 6-2 in the ODAC, while the Generals improved to 16-4, 6-1 in conference play.
Washington and Lee got off to a quick start in the first match-up against Roanoke since falling 2-3 to the Maroons in last season's ODAC tournament. The Generals now hold a 31-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) led Roanoke with 10 kills, 16 digs, and two block solos. She now trails
Jenna Burnop 06' by just eight kills for fifth on the school's all-time list.
Freshman
Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) came off the bench to tie a career-best with seven kills, adding three digs, and three aces.
Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt) picked up 12 digs and two aces on the evening.
Bren Wilberger (Richmond, VA, Steward ) finished with a team-high 12 assists and also pitched in three aces, while
Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) added 10 assists and six digs.
The women return to action Saturday, October 16 as they host Mary Baldwin and Averett in a tri-match. Play is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
