SALEM, Va--- Roanoke defeated Emory & Henry 3-0, in conference-action Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 12-3, 6-1 in the ODAC, while the Wasps fell to 1-9-2, 0-5-1 in conference play.
The win marked the 15th consecutive time Roanoke has topped Emory & Henry. The series now stands at 16-1 in favor of the Maroons.
Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River) got the scoring started in the eighth minute for Roanoke, as he found the back of the net for his team-high fifth goal of the season. The score came off a double assist from
Jason Ryan (Radford, VA, Radford) and
Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River). It was the third straight game the Maroons have recorded a double assist. Ryan leads the team with six helpers on the year.
Roanoke is now first in the ODAC with 24 assists this year.
Jordan Troyer (Columbia, SC, The Hammond School) then punched in a pass from Travalini for his third goal of the year in the 20
th minute, sending Roanoke into the half with a two-goal advantage.
With just nine minutes to play in the second stanza,
Jake Mercer (Raleigh, NC, St. David's ) headed in a cross from
Ned Felman (Roanoke, VA, Patrick Henry). The assist was Felman's first of his career.
Troyer led the Maroons, putting three shots on goal.
Carl Leist (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) and
Brooks Allison (Salem, VA, Salem) both recorded three shots on the evening. Roanoke's defense, which posted their 11
th shutout of the year, didn't allow a shot in the second half.
Will Bodfish paced the Wasps with two shots, one on goal.
Roanoke outshot Emory & Henry 20-4, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. They also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville) picked up his ninth win in goal for the Maroons, blocking two shots on the match. Daniel Mills took the loss for the Wasps, registering nine saves on the night.
The Men return to action Saturday, October 16 when they travel to Lynchburg to take on ODAC foe Randolph. The match is set for a 7:00 start.
