SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke topped Hollins, 3-1 in non-conference action at the Bast Center Friday evening. The Maroons improved to 12-3, while Hollins dropped to 5-9 on the season.
The Maroons have now won 15-straight over their cross-town rival. They improved to 29-11 in the series, winning 28 of the last 29 meetings.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) led Roanoke with 14 kills, 14 digs and two solo blocks. It marks the fourth-straight contest and six of the last seven matches that she has at least 10 kills or more. Wagner is now sixth on the career digs list at Roanoke with 857. Wagner, who trails Susan Brown '95 by only 12 digs for fifth on that list, recorded her 800th career kill in just her third season with the program.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) finished the evening with five kills and tied Wagner with a team-best 14 digs. With those numbers, the local product moved into seventh all-time in career kills (713) and is now 14th in career digs with 558.
Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) recorded six kills and two aces on the night, bringing her total to a team-best 22 on the year. Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) had 32 assists to move into 11th all-time with 564. Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt) and Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) had nine digs each, followed by Kayla Paxton (Salem, VA, Salem) with eight.
The women return to action tomorrow, as they will take on ODAC-foe, Lynchburg in a crucial conference match-up. The match is scheduled to start at noon.
