Big Second Half Earns Roanoke 15th Win of the Season over Randolph

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke shot 56.7% from the floor and outscored Randolph, 46-20 in the second half en route to a 76-36 win Friday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 15-2 overall, 12-1 in the ODAC. The Wildcats dropped to 3-15, 2-12 in conference play.
 
The Maroons outscored Randolph, 44-20 in the paint, 19-0 in second chance points, 33-0 off the bench and 39-6 in points off turnovers. Roanoke outrebounded the Wildcats, 39-27 and forced 27 turnovers in win and stay atop the ODAC standings. 12 of 13 players for Roanoke entered the scoring column as the Maroons won their seventh-straight in the series.
 
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County)led Roanoke in scoring for the eighth time this season with a game-high 15 points. She also had a game-high eight rebounds as the team-leader for the fourth time in six games. The junior center dished out a career-high four assists. The school's career blocks leader's had one tonight which put her fifth in ODAC History with 158.
 
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)continues her climb on Roanoke's career scoring list. Her 11 counters tonight passed both Leonda Hudson '75 and Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA, Northside)'02 for 13th all-time with 1,059 points. It is her 10th time in 11 games she has scored in double-figures. The ODAC's free-throw percentage leader went 3-for-3 from the line tonight. She is currently shooting 88.4% on the season.
 
Jaleesa Osborne (Ordinary, VA, Gloucester)and Gholson opened the game scoring the first five points before Randolph went on an 8-0 run to give them a 8-5 lead with 12:52 remaining in the first half.
 
Roanoke kicked in high gear with a commanding 21-4 run over the next 9 minutes. A three-pointer by Lindsay Skaff capped the run to make it, 26-12 with 3:15 left. The Maroons entered the locker room with a comfortable 14-point lead, 30-16.
 
The Maroons continued to keep up the same pace in the second half. Another three-pointer by Skaff capped a 22-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 34.
 
Five different players scored on the ensuing 18-4 run to give the Maroons a game-high 46-point lead with four minutes remaining.
 
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt)finished with six points, five rebounds, two steals and a career-high five blocked shots in just 16 minutes of action. Her 33 blocks rank her eighth on the single-season list at Roanoke. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance)added nine points off 4-of-4 shooting and five boards.
 
Megan Carney led Randolph with 14 points, including 6-for-6 from the line and five rebounds. Lindsay Cross tossed in 11 along with a team-high seven rebounds. Katie Rechnitzer chipped in nine counters for the Wildcats.
 
The women will travel across town to play against Hollins in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
