SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke dropped a 1-0 decision to Washington & Lee in ODAC action this evening at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 7-3, 3-1 in the ODAC while the Generals improved to 6-1 on the season.

The Generals scored the eventual game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in the first half off a free kick. The kick hit off the cross bar and rebounded onto Katie Howard, who headed the ball into the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead and eventually the win.

Washington & Lee out-shot Roanoke, 12-8, including 8-1 in shots on goal. They also held a 3-1 corner kick advantage.

Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View)finished with a season-best seven saves, including a “Perry” save midway through the second half to keep the game within reach. Emily Leary wound up with one save in her sixth win of the season.

Margaret Houston (Augusta, GA, Westminster School)led Roanoke with four shots, followed by Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley), who finished with two shots, one on goal for the Maroons.

The women will host Virginia Wesleyan this Saturday in a pivotal ODAC showdown. Game time is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
