LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke dropped matches to both Lynchburg and Gallaudet in a tri-match held at Turner Gym on the campus of Lynchburg College Saturday afternoon. The Maroons dropped to 7-6, 1-1 in the ODAC while Lynchburg improved to 8-1. Gallaudet improved to 1-4.
The Hornets defeated Roanoke in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)led the Maroons with 11 kills and nine digs.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)finished with six kills, 10 digs and two aces.
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)had 27 assists, eight digs and three kills while
Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt)totaled 14 digs and two aces.
In the second match of the afternoon, Gallaudet defeated the Maroons in four sets. The Bison took the first game as they rallied back from a 20-8 deficit to win, 25-22. They won the second frame, 25-19 before the Maroons came from behind to take the third set, 25-21. The final set went back and forth, but the Bison won the match, winning with a score of 25-23.
Wagner led Roanoke with 13 kills and 13 digs along with Long who totaled eight kills, 12 digs, 30 assists and two aces. Martin and Largen had 15 and nine digs, respectively, while
Shannon Stone finished with seven digs and four blocks (two solo).
Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance)had five kills and three blocks (one solo).
The women return to action this Tuesday, Sept. 22 as they host Bridgewater in ODAC action. The Eagles are currently 3-7, 1-0 in the ODAC. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
