LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke led 36-20 at the half and never looked back in an 80-42 win over Randolph College Friday evening. The Maroons improved to 5-0, 3-0 in the ODAC while the Wildcats dropped to 1-5, 0-1 in conference play.
Roanoke, who won its sixth-straight against Randolph, shot 47.2% from the floor, including 9-of-19 from three-point range while holding Randolph to a mere 30.4%. They out-rebounded the Wildcats, 41-37 and 17-9 in second chance points. The Maroons bench also was a key factor all game, contributing 38 points.
The Maroons forced 23 Wildcat turnovers leading to 24 points (12 points each half) on way to the conference win. Randolph suffered its worst shooting night of the season, converting just 30.4 percent (17-56) from the floor. Roanoke used their size advantage inside, scoring 42 of their 80 points in the paint.
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County)led all scorers with 14 points (7-of-11 shooting) and led the Maroons with six rebounds and four blocked shots.
Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley)finished with season-highs of 11 points, five assists and a game-high five steals, four in the second half.
Jaleesa Osborne (Ordinary, VA, Gloucester)chipped in nine points while dishing out a season-high seven assists
Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance)tossed in a season-best 10 points, all in the second half, while
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)added nine points of her own.
Sydney Webb (Hillsville, VA, Carroll County)scored a career-best nine points, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Lindsay Cross led Randolph with 10 points and 11 rebounds in addition to three assists. Lauren French also had 10 points along with four rebounds while Tavelyn Brown pulled down nine rebounds.
Roanoke will host Hollins on Saturday afternoon in ODAC action. The Maroons are winners of 12-straight against Hollins and hold a 60-2 series advantage. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
