SALEM, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan scored late in the second half to down Roanoke, 1-0 in women's soccer this afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons dropped to 7-4 overall, 3-2 in the ODAC while the Marlins improved to 7-3, 4-1 in conference play.
Virginia Wesleyan's Jessica Eldelman scored with 13 minutes remaining unassisted to give the Marlins their 11th-straight game over the Maroons. VWC is now 14-11-2 all-time in the series since 1986.
Roanoke was out-shot, 14-6 including 8-2 in corner kicks.
Margaret Houston (Augusta, GA, Westminster School)led the Maroons with two shots, one on goal.
Erin McClenathan (St. Petersburg, FL, Shorecrest Preparatory),
Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam),
Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster )and
Alida Haslett (Bryn Mawr, PA, Radnor)each registered a shot on goal in the loss.
Lindsay Kooiman finished with five saves on the afternoon. Allison Lennox also totaled five saves, including her seventh shutout win of the season.
The women return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 7 as they are on the road to take on Lynchburg in ODAC action. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
