SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke fell to Averett, 3-2 in a hard fought match at the Bast Center Thursday evening. The Maroons dropped to 13-16 on the season while the Cougars improved to 21-13. It was the second match in consecutive nights for the women.
The Maroons fell in scores of 25-13, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 13-15. The Maroons are now 6-12 all-time vs. Averett in what was the first five-set match in the series.
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)finished with 57 assists and 24 digs to lead the Maroons. The 57 assists broke a five-set single-match record at Roanoke and is the fifth-highest in school-history. Her 387 digs are fourth on the single-season list. Her 24 digs moved her up to fourth all-time in ODAC History with 1642 for her career.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)had a five-set match record 28 kills and 25 digs on the evening. Her 351 digs this year place her sixth on the single-season list at Roanoke.
Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt)totaled 24 digs to move her up to fourth on the single-season digs list at Roanoke with 392. She also moved past
Holly Holland '04 for third all-time in digs with 954 for her career.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)had a season-best 20 kills along with nine digs while
Lynsey Ferris (Roanoke, VA, Northside)totaled eight kills.
Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook)added seven kills in addition to three blocks (one solo) for the Maroons.
The women will take on #2 seed Washington & Lee in the ODAC Quarterfinals held at Hollins University Friday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. The Maroons will play the Generals for the fourth time this season and will look to build off its last match, where they won their first set over W&L in four years.
