LEXINGTON, Va. --- Roanoke was defeated by Washington & Lee, 3-1 in the final ODAC match of the season. The Maroons dropped to 13-15 overall, 4-6 in the ODAC while the Generals improved to 18-10, 8-2 in the ODAC.
After dropping the first set of the match, Roanoke rallied to take game two, 28-26 for their first set win since 2006. They fell in the final two sets, 25-19 and 26-24.
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)led the Maroons with 34 assists and 10 digs. Long is now fourth in career games played at Roanoke (395) and needs two more to pass
Ashlei Tripp '06 for third on that list.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)led the Roanoke attack with 15 kills and 25 digs, which were both season-bests. The junior outside hitter now has 326 digs on the season, which is ninth on the single-season list at Roanoke. Her 45 attacks tonight moved her up four spots to fourth on the single-season list with 893 on the season; eighth in career attacks with 1687.
Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt)had 18 digs while
Lindsay Wright (Vail, CO, Vail )chipped in a season-best 16 digs. Martin is now third in on the single-season digs list with 368.
Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook)had 11 kills while
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)totaled eight kills and five digs.
Lynsey Ferris (Roanoke, VA, Northside)finished with five kills and five blocks (three solo). She passed her sister
Ashley Ferris '05 for ninth on the career block solos list with 86.
The Maroons will return to action tomorrow as they host Averett University on senior night at the Bast Center. The women will recognize seniors Ferris, Long and Wright as they will play their final match in Salem. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
