LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Roanoke scored five first-half goals en route to a 10-0 victory over Randolph College on Wednesday evening. The Maroons finished the regular season with an 11-6 mark, 7-4 in the ODAC. The Wildcats fall to 3-14, 0-11 in the ODAC.
Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley)and
Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield)each finished with two goals and an assist to lead the Maroons.
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam)and
Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg)each totaled a goal and an assist in the win.
Chayna Schiff (Broomall, PA, Marple Newton)scored within the first minute of play off a double assist from both Welfare and Parenteau to give her the first game-winner of the season. Five minutes later, Graves scored off a rebound from Welfare's shot off the post to make it 2-0.
Adams scored three minutes later, followed by
Margaret Houston (Augusta, GA, Westminster School)second goal of the season from
Jamie Johnston (Wallingford, PA, Strath Haven )to make it, 4-0. In the 13
th minute, Parenteau scored off a corner kick as it bent into the far side to increase its lead to 5-0.
Just three minutes into the second half, Adams scored her second goal of the game from the top of the 18' box to make it 6-0. Adams then took a corner kick midway through the half as Welfare scored off a header and again a minute later off an assist from Graves to make it an 8-0 lead.
Ashley Manning (Katonah, NY, Somers)got past the goalkeeper and beat two defenders as she found an open net for the first goal of her career in the 67
th minute.
Cynthia Suttora (Fort Salonga, NY, Our Lady of Mercy Academy)scored in the 88
th minute to round out the scoring.
Roanoke out-shot Randolph, 48-4, including an 10-0 advantage on corner kicks. Welfare finished with a team-best seven shots, along with six from Parenteau. Adams added four shots in the win.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View)earned the win in goal for the Maroons, making two saves. Victoria Johnson finished with 17 saves for the Wildcats, as she broke the ODAC-record for career saves and now has 748 for her career.
The women will await the ODAC pairings tomorrow morning to determine their seed and who they will play on Saturday, Oct. 31.
