Stark's Goal Lifts Maroons over Washington & Lee, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Va.— Roanoke junior defender Michael Stark (Newport News, VA, Menchville)recorded the lone goal for the Maroons as they went on to defeat the Washington and Lee Men's soccer team, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Watt Field. The Maroons improved to 9-3-2 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC. The Generals dropped to 3-4-3, 1-3-2 in conference play.

Neither team found the net until the 69th minute when Stark recorded his goal off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Drew Claytor (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley)to keep the Maroons atop the ODAC standings with an undefeated conference record.

The Maroons out-shot the Generals, 9-6 in addition to 6-2 on corner kicks in the win.

Junior goalie Ben Bartlett played all 90 minutes in net, allowing one goal while recording three saves for the Generals. Roanoke goalkeeper Ryan Russell (Danville, VA, GW Danville)also played the duration, recording one save en route to his sixth shutout of the season.

The men return to action Wednesday, Oct. 14 as they host Randolph for a 7 p.m. match at Kerr Stadium.
