Roanoke battles Greensboro to Scoreless Tie

Salem, Va. --- The Roanoke College women's soccer team fought Greensboro College to a scoreless tie at Kerr Stadium in the ODAC/USA-South Challenge this evening. Both teams are now 1-2-1 for the season. Hidden Valley products Meredith Grunewald and Jessica Welfare were named to the all-tournament team.

Roanoke controlled throughout the contest, with a 20-4 shot advantage along with a 10-5 margin in corner kicks. It was a physical game with 26 fouls called during the match.

Greensboro's Tessa Hall had all four shots, including two on goal. Welfare had a team-high seven shots, three of them headers that came close to becoming the game-winner. Grunewald and Kristen McCoy each had four shots, two on goal for the Maroons.

Katie Allegro was credited with her second shutout of the weekend to go along with nine saves for The Pride. Roanoke goalkeeper Lindsay Kooiman finished with two saves.

The women will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9 as they battle in-state rival Ferrum at 7 p.m. Roanoke is 8-0-1 all-time against the Panthers.
