Salem, Va. --- The Maroons had five different scorers in a 5-0 victory over Emory & Henry this afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved their record to 5-4-1, 3-1 in the ODAC. The Wasps dropped to 7-3, 1-2 in the conference. The Maroons are now 11-1 in the series vs. E&H.
Margaret Houston got the scoring underway in the 20
th minute as she beat her defender and took her shot over the goalkeeper into the back of the net to make it, 1-0.
Four minutes later,
McKenzie Garst took a corner kick and found
Jessica Welfare who scored off a header in the box to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead. Freshman
Chayna Schiff scored off a breakaway to give Roanoke a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
McCoy scored in the box in the 56
th minute to give her team a 4-0 advantage. It was her 100
th point of her career. Grunewald found an open
Dorie Gedridge as she scored her second goal of the season to end the scoring.
The Maroons outshot the Wasps, 21-5 including a 16-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Lindsay Kooiman earned her second shutout performance of the season. Hayley Poland finished with one save.
The women return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as they travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to take on ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan. The Maroons are currently 10-10-3 against the Marlins, but VWC has won the last seven meetings. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
