Lynchburg, Va. --- The women's basketball team defeated Randolph College, 72-49 on Saturday afternoon in both team's final regular season game. The Maroons close the regular season, 15-10 and 13-7 in the ODAC. The Wildcats fell to 7-17, 5-15 in the ODAC.
The Maroons got all they could handle from the Wildcats, going into halftime with the score tied at 21-all. Randolph even held a one-point lead, 33-32 with 13 minutes to play until the Maroons erupted with a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game away.
Roanoke outscored Randolph, 50-18 in the second half to seal their 15th victory. The win marks the 25th 15-win season in Roanoke's storied 32-years of basketball. The women also finished the season winning 10 of their final 13 games.
Jaleesa Osborne tied a career-high 18 points in addition to six assists and three steals, which puts her at 10
th in the single-season steals list (70).
Torri Bridge finished with 11 points and four assists. The 91 assists on the season is the most by a Maroon since the 2002-03 season.
Caitlyn Long had nine points and six rebounds while junior
Erin Jenkins scored 11 points, dished out three assists and totaled three steals on her birthday.
Freshman
Jordan Gholson had three blocked shots, which tied the school's single-season blocks record with 45 on the year with at least one more game to break the record. The women won 13 conference games, the most since 2002-03 and the 16
th time since joining the ODAC.
The women will await pairings of the ODAC Tournament, which will begin this Thursday, Feb. 28. Game time for the quarterfinal round will be determined on Sunday. The Maroons have a storied tradition in the ODAC Tournament, winning 13 titles, but have not won since 2000. They have played in 17 of the ODAC's 25 conference tournament championship games since 1982-83. The last championship game appearance came in 2003, falling to Randolph-Macon 80-68. The women have advanced to the semifinals for three-straight years. The last two occasions the Maroons were a #5 seed was in 2007, advancing to the semifinals and nearly defeating Randolph-Macon, 76-72 and in 1998 when they won the ODAC Title as the lowest seed to win the conference title.
