Both teams shot below 40-percent for the game and Roanoke shot a dismal 6-of-14 from the free-throw line, but the Maroons once again found a way to win on the defensive end. They outrebounded the Gophers, 52-39 and held them to 28% from the floor in the second half to seal their eighth victory of the season. They also outscored Goucher, 26-16 in the paint and 13-6 in second chance points.

Goucher chipped away at the Roanoke lead and Pat Bailey's lay-up with one-second left cut the Gopher deficit to four, 33-29 at the half.
A three-pointer by Darrin Bowell put the Gophers down one to start the half. Roanoke answered by slowly pulling away as Curtis Peery's back-to-back layups gave the Maroons a game-high 11-point lead, 58-47 with just over seven minutes remaining.
The Gophers wouldn't go away. They countered with a 14-4 run over the next six and a half minutes highlighted by a conventional three-point play by Miguel Negron to make the score, 62-61 with 13-seconds remaining.
Peery was fouled with nine seconds remaining and calmly hit both attempts to make it a three-point game as Goucher called timeout. Boswell, who was 50-percent from long range for the game missed a three-point attempt as Drew Gaeng came up with the rebound to end the game.
Peery led all scorers with 24 points along with 11 rebounds for the 12th double-double of his career. He also had over 20 points for the 12th time in his career. Peery is now four points shy of passing former great Steve Baker '64 for 27th on the all-time scoring list.
