DANVILLE, Va. --- Roanoke jumped out to a 37-10 halftime lead and never trailed as the Maroons cruised to a 66-38 win over Averett this afternoon in non-conference action. With the win, the Maroons are off to a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since 1997-98.

Susan Dunagan has been at Roanoke. With the win over Guilford at home on Tuesday, they were 3-0 for the second-straight season for the second time in school-history (other in 1978-79). The Maroons are now 101-27 against USA-South Conference schools, 14 coming against the Cougars.
The 38 points held by Roanoke was the second-lowest in the series against Averett, who dropped to 3-2 on the season. The Maroons are now 14-2 all-time against the Cougars and won their 13th-straight in the series. Roanoke has defeated Averett by at least 26 points in the last three meetings.
Jaleesa Osborne led the Maroons with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. She now is ninth all-time in career steals (148). Osborne has scored in double-figures for the third time this season and for the fifth time in the last six games dating back to last season.
Roanoke won the game on both ends of the court. Defensively, the women won the rebounding battle, 39-36 in addition to blocked shots (8-2) and steals (10-4). They held the Cougars to just 23.7% shooting from the field, 14.8% in the first half. Offensively, the Maroons shot 52-percent for the game and 45.5% from beyond the arc while outscoring their opponents, 32-22 in the paint, 30-11 off turnovers and 10-2 in fast break points.
Taylor Poirier led Averett with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Liz Martin had nine points and four rebounds while Nikki Huffman finished with seven points and four rebounds for the Cougars.
The women take on Bridgewater in ODAC action on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Maroons are 52-28 all-time against the Eagles and have won the last five meetings. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
