Salem, Va. --- Roanoke College battled #2 Lynchburg to a 1-1 tie at Kerr Stadium this evening. The Maroons are now 5-5-2 overall with a 3-2-1 mark in conference play. The Hornets stand at 10-0-3 with a 3-0-2 record in ODAC play.
The Maroons are now 11-16-1 all-time vs. Lynchburg. It was Lynchburg's third overtime match of the season.
Lynchburg's Katie Santos broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute in the second half from within the 18' to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
Meredith Grunewald scored the equalizer off
Laura Kellam's first assist of the season with just under seven minutes left in regulation to tie the contest at one-apiece. Grunewald moved into sole possession of seventh in career points with 85.
The Maroons were outshot, 20-4 including 11-1 in shots on goal with a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Lindsay Kooiman finished with nine saves for Roanoke while Lynchburg's Jackie Bader was credited with the tie.
The women return to action on Oct. 10 as they battle in-state rival Mary Washington Friday at 5 p.m. The Maroons are 2-5-2 all-time in the series but defeated the Eagles, 3-2 in 2006.
