Grunewald has career night in 11-1 victory over Randolph

Salem, Va. --- Senior Meredith Grunewald had a nine-point performance in a 11-1 win over Randolph College in the regular season-finale. With the win, Roanoke improved to 10-6-2 overall with an 8-2-1 mark in the ODAC. Randolph ended its season 5-15, 1-10 in the ODAC. With the win, Roanoke secured a fourth-seed in the ODAC Tournament and will host Eastern Mennonite this weekend.
The 11 goals were the most scored by the Maroons this season and the most in the series since 1998 against the Wildcats. The Maroons out shot Randolph, 30-1 with 24 of those shots on goal. It was the highest shot output of the season.
Grunewald, the team captain, netted her 16th goal of the season and added three more assists for 12 on the season to make her second all-time for assists in a single-season. After her career performance tonight, Grunewald moved up to third in single-season goals (16) and two points shy of breaking the school's single-season mark as she has 44 points heading into the post-season. Grunewald is also fourth now in career goals with 37.
Kristen McCoy, who scored two goals this evening, gave her 50 career goals and has 111 career points. She is now only three points ahead of Grunewald with 108. She is also second all-time now in career shots on goal with 136.
Margaret Houston also scored two goals for her first multi-goal game of the season. She now has nine game-winners, which is fifth on the all-time list at Roanoke. She had five shots on goal, which are the most in her career while the six shots are the most this season.
Lauren Kellam, who battled through a foot injury early in the season, had a goal and an assist to pace the Maroons in the win. She scored her second goal of the season in the 75th minute for the final goal of the match.
Tami Alcalde gave herself a birthday present as she scored in the 70th minute as she split both the defender and goalkeeper to find the open net. It was the 24th goal of her career.
Lauren Schwarcz (1) and Chayna Schiff (2) also scored for the Maroons along with Gina Valles who added her first assist of the season.
The women will host fifth seeded Eastern Mennonite in the ODAC Tournament this Saturday. The women won, 1-0 earlier this season and owns a 7-3-1 series advantage over the Royals. The Maroons are 29-20 all-time in the ODAC Tournament. Game time is TBA.
