Generals Comback to Defeat Maroons, 61-57

The women's basketball team fell to Washington & Lee, 61-57 at Bast Gym on Friday evening. The Maroons dropped to 4-7; 2-4 in the ODAC while the Generals improved to 4-7; 3-3 in ODAC play. It was the second-straight win and the third in the last five meetings vs. Roanoke. 
 
Down 53-40 with 6:40 remaining, the Generals finished the game on a 21-4 run to erase the deficit and earn their fourth win of the season. Allie Long led the team in scoring with 13 points, but scored nine points over the last six minutes of the game. Bethany Ridenhour hit two big three-pointers late to help seal the win. The Generals hit all of their five three-pointers in the second half.
 
The Maroons had their largest lead of the game, 28-13 after a made basket by junior Virginia Anne Hagood with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. She scored nine of her career-high 13 points in the first half.
 
Roanoke was outrebounded, 42-33 for the fourth-straight game. The Maroons shot 88-percent from the line in the first half, but didn't have an attempt in the entire second half.
 
The Generals scored 18 points off turnovers, 12 in the second half and outscored the Maroons, 34-22 in the paint. The Roanoke bench outscored W&L, 27-16.
 
The Maroons were led by Hagood with 13 points and a season-high seven rebounds.  Fellow junior Marcy Conner also notched a career-high 10 points and pulled down a season-high five rebounds. 
 
Senior guard Torri Bridge finished with 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals in 36 minutes.   Sophomore guard Caitlyn Long ended up with 10 points. She is now three trey balls away from entering the top-10 in career three-pointers made.
 
The Maroons play next at home on Tuesday, Jan. 15 as they host Bridgewater. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Maroons hold a 42-24 advantage all-time in the series, including three-straight wins over the last two seasons.
