SALEM, VA. – The field hockey team fell in overtime to the Eagles of Bridgewater, 2-1 at Kerr Stadium on Friday evening. It was senior night for eight members of the team who were honored in a ceremony prior to the game.
Kristen Santella got the scoring underway in the first half, scoring her first career goal off an assist from Leeanne Clark, her first of the season to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Eagles tied the contest as Kendra Anderson scored off an assist from Kristen Ganslow to make it 1-1 in the 54th minute.
Both teams would play stellar defense, making amazing saves by both goalkeepers, including Santella, who came up with a season-high four defensive saves to help force overtime.
In the extra period, the Eagles would score off a Kalah Hess shot in which she flipped over a diving Lindsey Paz, who stopped a save just before Hess caught it off the rebound to give the Eagles their second win of the season.
Paz, who had an amazing game between the pipes, finished with 11 saves. Santella had a team-high four defensive saves for the Maroons.
