UMW Field Hockey Tops Roanoke, 4-0

Fredericksburg, VA - Four different players scored goals as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team opened up a close 1-0 halftime advantage in a 4-0 win over Roanoke College on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-4 on the season while the Maroons drop to 2-5.
The Eagles scored early, as Kristen Haynor scored on a penalty corner on assists from Nicole Conti and Emma Jones with 32:30 remaining in the first half. UMW would outshoot the Maroons, 11-4, in the first frame, but led by just the 1-0 advantage after the first 35 minutes of play.
Senior Maureen McGee scored her fourth penalty stroke of the season less than 30 seconds into the second half to push the lead to 2-0, and senior Kalyn Perkins scored on an Amy Santella assist with 30:06 remaining. Sophomore Chelsea Brown scored with 11 seconds left on an assist from Alison Weckstein for the 4-0 margin.
UMW outshot Roanoke, 24-11, and had 13 corners to 10 for the Maroons. Erin Arnwine had six saves and Chrissy Bowdren had two saves for UMW, while Ryann O'Connor had 11 saves for Roanoke.
The Maroons are back in action at home this Friday and Saturday as they host Bridgewater at 7 p.m.
