MAROONS SNAP THREE-GAME SLIDE WITH 20-7 WIN

SALEM, VA-The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team brought to an end a three-game losing streak with a 20-7 win over Colby College on Tuesday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons, who had not won since March 11th, improve to 6-4 overall on the season. Colby falls to 1-4 following the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Leading just 8-4 at halftime, the Maroons scored seven unanswered goals in the third quarter. After being called for a penalty late in the second quarter but ending the half with possession, the Maroons were awarded the ball to start the second half. The Maroons ran several seconds off the clock before Andrew Hall made a pass to Nick Derby, who scored Roanoke's second man-down goal of the year. After Zach Thomas and Pat March each scored goals, Roanoke freshman Dan Cochran scored his first college goal, an outside shot that finished a Scott Pattison pass. Before the third period was up, the Maroons had taken a 15-4 lead.

After each team got off to a slow start, the teams combined for five goals in the final 7:46 of the first quarter, with Roanoke getting four of those. Colby's Dan Schupack scored the first goal of the second quarter to make the score 4-2, but Roanoke freshman Ashton Hotchkiss scored back-to-back goals, the first an unassisted dodge from behind the cage, and Roanoke's lead was 6-2.

After scoring the only seven goals of the third, the Maroons scored the first four of the fourth quarter to build themselves a 19-4 lead. Behind 20-5 with less than eight minutes to play, the Mules got back-to-back goals from Drew Piekarski to make the final 20-7.

Jon Mason finished with five goals and an assists for the Maroons, while Thomas and Chaz Carlson added two goals and three assists each and Hotchkiss three goals and an assist. Roanoke junior Billy Cameron went 12-for-13 on face-offs and sophomore Josh Rea 9-for-10.

The Maroons are back in action on Saturday night against Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Lynchburg College. The game against the Hornets, who will enter the game as the nation's fourth ranked team, will begin at 7:00pm in Lynchburg, VA.
