MAROONS BACK IN WIN COLUMN WITH 19-8 VICTORY

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team returned to the win column with a 19-8 road victory over Colorado College on Saturday evening. The Maroons, ranked 13th in the latest Division III national poll, improve to 4-1 on the season. The Tigers fall to 0-1. The Maroons will play Mt. Ida (MA) College at 4:30 EST on Sunday for the Colorado College Invitational championship. Mt. Ida defeated Moravian (PA) College 15-14 on Saturday.

The Maroons jumped out quickly in Saturday's game, scoring eight goals in the first period of play. Jon Mason got the Maroons going, with the first of his five goals, that with 11:50 left in the first. Roanoke junior Billy Cameron won the ensuing face-off, pushed a fastbreak, fed the ball to Zach Thomas, who scored just seven seconds after the Mason tally. Mason scored again, with just under nine minutes to play, and the Maroons led 3-0.

After Colorado College's Toby Cohen cut the Maroons lead to 3-1 with 5:56 left, the Maroons scored four goals in the span of 1:09. Mason finished a Thomas pass to get the run going, that with 4:50 left. After senior defender Wes McFarlane scored his third goal of the season 39 seconds later, Scott Pattison gave the Maroons a 6-1 lead with 3:51 to play. Ten seconds later and Pattison was on the board again, the second of his four goals, capping the four goal run.

The Tigers battled back in to cut the Maroon lead to 9-4 with 3:09 left in the first half, but goals from Thomas and freshman Pat March and the Maroon cushion was back to seven goals, 11-4 with just 54 seconds left in the second quarter. The Tigers, however, scored two goals in the final 17 seconds, the second with just one second left. Ted Nash got both the goals, two of his three in the game.

Roanoke scored all four goals of the third quarter, with Mason getting his fifth and Cameron adding a goal and an assist. The Maroons outshot Colorado College 14-4 in the third quarter and finished the game with a 54-30 advantage in the shots column. After the Tigers got a goal from Case Watson to open the fourth quarter scoring, Roanoke scored four straight goals, including two from Pattison and one from junior Rob Clements, his second of the game. Colorado College's Charley Perkins capped the game's scoring with 4:38 showing.

Roanoke's Thomas led all players with eight points on the day, a career-high for the attackman. The eight-point day surpassed his previous career-best of six, set against Widener in the 2005 NCAA tournament. Mason finished with seven points. Pattison had a career-high in the goals column, while sophomore Chaz Carlson had a career-best four assists. Cameron won 11 of his 19 face-off attempts, sophomore Josh Rea six of his nine. Nick Peck made nine saves and allowed just the eight goals.
