MAROONS ROLL TO 21-9 WIN AT GREENSBORO

GREENSBORO, NC- Ranked sixth in the nation, the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 21-9 win at Greensboro College on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons have won 13 of the 14 all-time meetings with Greensboro which was playing its first game of the 2007 season.
The Maroons held a sizable 67-31 edge in shots in Wednesday's game and forced Greensboro goalies to make a total of 29 saves. The Maroons also won 26 of the 33 face-offs in the game and scored on two of their four man-up chances.

Roanoke sophomore Chaz Carlson opened the scoring for the Maroons, getting the first of his four points on the day just under four minutes in. Maroon senior defender Wes McFarlane gave the Maroons a 2-0 lead, scoring his second goal in as many games. Carslon scored man-up and Pat March and Jon Mason each scored before the first quarter was up to give the Maroons a 5-0 lead. Mason's goal was the first of his three points on the day, which gives him 201 for his career, the sixth player in Roanoke history to go over 200.

Leading 5-1 after one, the Maroons built themselves an 8-3 lead on a Matt Duke man-up strike. The Pride, however, put together back-to-back scores and with 5:32 left in the half trailed just 8-5. Mason, junior Scott Pattison, and freshman Ashton Hotchkiss added second quarter goals for Roanoke, which led 11-5 at halftime.

The Maroon lead ballooned to 16-7 after three quarters and 20-7 on a Steve Furdock goal with 7:45 left in the game. The Pride got two goals with less than four minutes to play and Maroon freshman RJ Miltner scored late to make the final 21-9.

Furdock and Brendan Moore each scored three goals and added two assists for the Maroons, who got goals from 11 different players. March finished with four goals and Duke and McFarlane with a goal and an assist. Billy Cameron won 18 of the 24 face-offs he took and also scored once. Josh Rea went 5-for-5 on face-offs. Maroon freshman Andrew Macmannis tallied his first college point, an assist in the fourth quarter. Roanoke goalies combined to make 12 saves.

Rob Morgan scored three times for the Pride with Neal McKinney adding two tallies. The story for the Pride, however, was its goaltending. Greensboro goalies made 29 saves in the game. Starter Mike Foderaro made 18 in the first half, Sam Stockdale 11 in the second half.

The Maroons are back in action on Sunday in a road game against the nation's top-ranked team, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls. The game in Salisbury, MD begins at 1:00pm.
