Roanoke, VA - The men's basketball team defeated Ferrum, 73-56 at the Roanoke Civic Center on Monday evening. The Maroons are now 3-0 on the season while the Panthers drop to 2-3 overall. The Maroons have now won 19 of their last 23 games dating back to January of 2007.
The Maroons are now 13-2 in the all-time series vs. the Panthers, 10-1 under
Page Moir. It was the 10
th-straight victory in the series.
The Maroons big men dominated, outscoring the Panthers, 44-22 in the paint. The bench also stepped up, as they outscored Ferrum, 21-9.

Curtis Peery and
Aaron Tyson each combined for 36 points and 21 rebounds in the victory.
With an 8-4 Ferrum lead early in the contest, the Maroons woke up and went on a 19-5 run to give them a 23-13 advantage with 8:41 remaining in the first half.
They would trade buckets back and forth as Ferrum's Keith Crump and Peery would lead their teams with 13 and 11 points, respectively in the first half. The Maroons would go into the locker room with a 38-29 lead.
The Maroons opened the second half with a 10-2 run and never looked back as they would cruise to their third victory of the season.
Roanoke had four scorers in double-figures, led by LaPorte and Peery with 16 points each.
Zach Milton and
Ben Shrader also finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Tyson tied career-highs of eight rebounds and two blocks to lead the Maroons.
AJ Dowell had a team-high five assists.
Ferrum was led by Crump with 18 points, followed by Jon Godsey, who chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.
LaPorte is currently 11 rebounds from cracking the top-10 in rebounding all-time at Roanoke. He is ninth all-time in steals with 135, needing five to pass Donnie Morris for eighth all-time. Shrader needs seven three-pointers to pass Mike Thorton for fifth all-time.
The Maroons open up ODAC action as they host Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Maroons are 71-65 all-time, 15-25 under Moir since 1990. The Maroons defeated Randolph-Macon, 79-58 in the ODAC Quarterfinals last season, the first time in the last 14 meetings (2001).
