LEXINGTON, VA – The field hockey team fell to Washington & Lee, 4-2 in ODAC action on Friday afternoon. The Maroons slip to 2-7 overall and 2-2 in ODAC play while the Generals improve to 5-3; 2-1 in the ODAC.

Sallie Armstrong gave the Generals a 1-0 lead just over a minute elapsed in the contest as she scored an unassisted goal. Freshman forward Poppy Hall followed with a goal at the 17:42 mark off an assist from senior midfielder Kendall Korte for a 2-0 lead.

Armstrong would find the back of the cage again at the 32:40 mark off an assist from junior forward Christina Merchant to give W&L a 3-0 lead at the half.

The Generals would extended their lead to 4-0 just three minutes into the second half when junior forward Guada Suarez slipped one past  senior goalkeeper Lindsey Paz off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Alex Caritis.

The Maroons got on the board with just under 10 minutes left to go as sophomore forward Mariah Vietri scored her second goal of the season off a feed from senior midfielder Juliet Leonard for her second assist of the season to close the deficit to within three, 4-1 with eight minutes left in the game.

They would add another goal just five minutes later as freshman forward Gia Boscola found the cage for her second goal of the year unassisted to close the gap to 4-2. It would be too little too late as they would get no closer.

Senior Tara Rubenstein, sophomore Caroline Habliston, and freshman Emily Allender all shared time in goal for the Generals. Habliston made two saves, while Rubenstein was credited with the win. Paz registered 14 saves for the Maroons, as she sits with 98 saves on the season.

The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 as they travel to Shenandoah. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
