LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Allie Weir scored a pair of goals Thursday evening as the Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated visiting Roanoke College 6-0 in ODAC play. The Maroons drop to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in ODAC play while the Hornets improve to 13-4; 4-1 in the ODAC.
Lynchburg got on the board six minutes into the game on a successful penalty stroke from Erin Majerowicz to make it 1-0. Caitlin Gibb scored an unassisted tally and Signey Milks also found the back of the net to give LC a 3-0 lead entering halftime. The Hornets scored three times after intermission in just over three minutes – two from Weir and one from Jessi Bowman to preserve the victory.
The Hornets outshot Roanoke 45-12 and held a 22-10 edge in penalty corners. Sarah Cates made four saves to preserve the shutout for Lynchburg, while senior goalkeeper Lindsey Paz made 18 saves for Roanoke.
The Maroons will travel to Ashland, VA to play in their final game of the regular season as they will play against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
