PAZ BECOMES ALL-TIME SAVES LEADER IN LOSS TO RMC

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 home loss to Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons falls to 2-11 on the season, 1-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets are now 6-7, 3-3 in the ODAC.

The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into Saturday's contest, getting a penalty stroke goal from Lindsay Walker. The Maroons were whistled for hitting the ball with a foot as the ball was headed into the cage, thus giving RMC the stroke. The Maroons wasted no time in evening the score, getting an unassisted goal from junior Liz Hudson. After beating the RMC defense, Hudson flipped the ball over a sliding RMC goalie and then stuck a shot in the cage.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good with just about six minutes to play in the first half. Morgan Hutchinson shot the ball from inside the circle. As the Maroon defense attempted to block the shot before it got to the goalie, the ball deflected off of an RC stick and into the cage. Walker added an insurance goal for the Maroons early in the second half.

In the loss, Roanoke goalie Lindsey Paz became Roanoke's all-time saves leader. She made 11 saves in the contest and in the process surpassed Marybeth Miller for the all-time lead. Paz finished the contest with 473 saves, one ahead of Miller. Miller's record had stood since 1989.

The Maroons travel to Bridgewater College for another ODAC contest, this one on Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons then return home next Friday against Sweet Briar College. That will be the team's final home game of the season.
